Ready for an intense yet rewarding full day hike to summit Mount Tammany and visit Sunfish Pond, one of New Jersey's "Seven Natural Wonders"? Then this is the perfect hike for you!
This hike is a great mix of everything! Stunning views, a beautiful forest with peak fall foliage this October, hiking next to a babbling river for 3 miles, a tranquil alpine pond, and the potential to see some great wildlife! You won't believe you're only an hour and a half from Manhattan.

Drop off at Mt Tammany Red Dot trailhead by 9:30 am

Debrief of hike and safety information while you eat your bagels :)

Start hike by 9:50 am

Hike Red Dot Trail up to Mount Tammany

Summit Mount Tammany around 11:15 am
-
Hike to Sunfish Pond
-
Lunch break at Sunfish Pond around 2:00 pm
-
Return to trailhead on Appalachian trail
-
Finish hike by 5:15 pm
-
5:30 pm pick up at trailhead

Drop off at Penn Station by 7:30 pm (time can vary with traffic)

Finish hike by 4:30 pm

Optional group snack and send off 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm

What to Wear

Hiking boots or very sturdy sneakers are a MUST for this hike, the trail is very rocky and involves some scrambling

Weather-appropriate, moisture-wicking, athletic clothing (wear or bring layers!)

This is a strenuous trail and not recommended for complete beginner hikers or someone without a basic level of fitness, as long as you either have hiking experience or workout semi-regularly you're all good! :)
